Has anyone ever heard about this? When I was working at Dr. Toijala's office a patient once told me "If you see a fly in the house in February something good will happen soon." He said both times he saw a fly he found money shortly after wards. The next Feb Mark and I saw a fly and within a few days someone was calling us telling Mark he'd won a sales contest (he didn't know he was in) and we were going to Florida. Last year the kids saw a fly and named him "Oogie". I don't remember anything out of the ordinary happening, but found it funny that every fly they saw after that they thought was Oogie.
So this year we had another Oogie living in the bathroom. I spotted him Jan 30th and hoped he'd make it until Feb 1st. He did and then Mark accidentally washed him down the drain. (long story for another blog, we just hoped it wouldn't bring us bad luck. Oh and for the record, I have no problem killing flies during the months May-Oct!)) I think we can definitely say good things are happening.
Our crop was a huge success, I've been smiling all day. I did manage to get some sleep, which is good. I apologize to all if I was getting a little loopy towards the end of the day yesterday.
I can't begin to thank all of you for all the support and dedication you've offered to me over the last few months. I hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time, got lots of pages done, and made new memories to scrap.
It brings me to tears (not a hard thing to do) when I think that all of this was done in Jack's name. I think we all hope that our children will grow up and be good people, successful, compassionate. I hope I teach my living children Sammi, Sophie and David this. My wish for them is they will find something that they feel strongly about and work to make a difference. I'm not a huge activist by any means, but I do believe in giving back to the people that support you and your community. I believe Jack's life had meaning, I do. He was only here for 31 days and there was a reason for that. I've made it my mission to be his voice and keep his spirit alive. Our crop is doing that.
Between last year and this year we've made almost $3,000.00. I have to go to the bank on Monday and add the rest of the checks. I think it's safe to say we should be close to $1700.00 this year. =) That will be more than enough to send a child to CLM this year, with some left over to assist another child. We are making a difference!
I know I mentioned on Sat who made donations but I want to list them again, and if I've forgotten anyone I apologize.
Sara Landolt-my overnight manager. She worked very hard at spreading the word and securing the Pick and Save donation and the classes from Zumba.
Anna Kopp-donated 3 wonderful prizes and made the yummy blueberry coffee cake
Angela Try-was responsible for the Channel 3 interview, which got the word out and ultimately led to our new sponsor (more on that later)
Kelly Pitzlin-my co-captain behind the scenes. She did a ton of work to help me, too much to list. She secured the big donation from Stampin' Up.
Lots of you brought food-thank you. It was all very yummy! And I know others also put door prizes up on the table-thank you.
Pick and Save-$25.00 gift card
Gina K Designs-Gina was our local contact and also generously donated 4 stamp sets
Stampin' Up-huge box of stamps and scrapbooking supplies
Smart Motors-lift tickets and Comfort Suits give certificates
JT Whitney's-$25.00 gift certificate
My Mom -who doesn't read my blog but who deserves a shout out anyway. She made the turkey among other things and babysat for countless hours so I could be there.
And I hope you've made it this far because this blog post isn't over yet...
So, if you were there on Sat you were there to witness the generosity of someone I just met and we all need to thank.
Stephanie, a manager from Fiskar's, saw our story on Ch 3 on Friday night. She and her sons came down on Sat with a HUGE tote bag (more of a box really) over flowing with Fiskar's scrapbooking tools. I mean, TONS of awesome stuff. If you are a crafter of any kind, a gardener or a sewer you already are very familiar with the Fiskar's company. My first memory of Fiskar's goes back to my Mom's orange handled "good sewing scissors". The ones we were not to touch and to NEVER cut paper with.
I was just blown away! Stephanie said we could use the goodies as door prizes. And if that wasn't enough to make me cry, the next thing she said did. She gave me her card and said next year to call her and "she would help us promote our crop and be our sponsor". If I didn't have witnesses I'd probably question if I made that part up. I was going on no sleep, and lots of Diet Coke and chocolate. But people assure me she was there and I didn't make it up. =)
Anna Kopp was promoting last week as Random Act of Kindness week, and I think this was the biggest RAK I've heard of.
Stephanie, thank you for your generosity. I can't begin to express how you've touched me, all I can say is thank you, that's at least a start.
Oh and thanks Oogie, you're welcome here anytime, well in the month of February anyway. =)
ps....next year's 3rd annual Scrap From My Heart will most likely be on Feb 12 and 13...mark your calendars!
